Abstract:
This presentation will focus on high-area, permanently microporous, metal-organic framework (MOF) compounds as functional materials. The presentation will touch upon very recent advances in MOF synthesis (controlling network interpenetration, a post-synthetically tailoring internal cavities and external surfaces), advances in materials purification, advances in materials activation, and advances in computationally assisted discovery of champion materials for specific applications. These advances are facilitating the construction of MOFs that show promise for energy-related applications, including: a) hydrogen storage and release, b) chemical separations based on emergent phenomena, c) carbon capture, and d) multi-stage catalysis of chemical reactions. New developments in one or more of these areas will be described.
